The Perfectly Good Lie: Winning Has Its Price is a work of sports fiction and interpersonal drama penned by author Rose Gonsoulin. We follow a trio of central characters through the trials and tribulations of their lives, all centered around the world of professional golf. Buck Buchanan is grieving after the loss of his mother, especially when it seems like his life as a player in the PGA is hanging by a thread too. His half-brother Art hates golf but is roped into Buck’s world against his will as a caddie. And then, when both men meet and fall for former champion Carla Davila, all three of them will learn more than one lesson on the range.
One of the most enjoyable things about this excellent sports drama created by author Rose Gonsoulin is the construction of the plot to give each character their due attention, making the central trio seem very real and emotive throughout. Fans of golf drama will love the intrigue and the desperation centered around Buck’s storyline, but for me, Art was the really enjoyable character amid the developments. An oddball and a misfit by nature, Art’s interruptions to the plot are a joy to read and well placed in the narrative. There’s plenty on the line in this thoroughly pleasant novel, which is sure to please fans who seek a lot of ups and downs, on and off the fairway. Overall, The Perfectly Good Lie: Winning Has Its Price is a highly recommended read for sports fiction fans.
