The Passover Story Haggadah: A New Narrative for a Modern Seder will interest those of the Jewish faith and enlighten those who love studying religion and its rites. The primary aim of Stuart Leven is to guide fellow Jews in making the Haggadah used at Passover more relevant to modern Jews. Stuart covers every aspect of the Haggadah and guides the reader through the Seder meal. First, he explains the assortment of symbolic foods and lists them and their meaning. Then, after Stuart gives the order of the service, he includes the Hallel, a collection of Psalms of Praise used during the Seder. One of the main differences between this Haggadah and the more traditional ones is that this version includes more about the actual events of the first Passover and Moses.
Stuart Leven has scored a home run in The Passover Story Haggadah. This book is full of wonderful pictures that show the celebration of Passover over the centuries. Several variations are included so the Seder leader can choose which ones he desires to use. Using this Haggadah, the family will better understand more about Moses, Miriam, and Aaron and their role in the original Passover. Even though I am not Jewish, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and learning more about Passover. Christians need to read this book to learn more about the Jewish roots of their religion. Jews need to use this book to better understand one of the most celebrated events in their history. With my Jewish friends, I pray, “Next year in Jerusalem!”
