The Paradise Beach Mysteries: Whitehaven Beach by Cathy Maisano is a mystery story in which readers are introduced to Megan and her brother, Marcus, who are a brother and sister agent team from Bexhill-On-Sea, England. The Environmental Protection of World Beaches has found out that the sand on Whitehaven Beach is slowly disappearing and it is not from a natural cause. They are sent to Whitehaven Beach, which is on Whitsunday Island, to find and nab the sand thieves operating on Whitehaven Beach. The local authorities are unable to capture the criminals and these two are entrusted with the mission. The beach is in Australia and they have to find out who is involved in this beach crime. Will they be able to find out who the sand thieves are and save the beach from disappearing completely?
The story handles the topic of saving the environment well, and the author weaves a fascinating tale with interesting characters and a dash of fantasy and mystery that will keep readers glued till the very end. The author’s narration is simple and elegant, yet detailed, making the images vivid and real to readers. It is a good story for bed time storytelling and also for read aloud sessions in classrooms because of its educational and informative content. The fantasy, mystery, adventure, and twists in the plot make it an entertaining storybook for all young readers. The information about Whitehaven Beach at the end of the story is educational and informative and will make readers want to travel to Australia to experience the sandy beaches of Whitsunday Island.
