Kate Devana ventures into the private sector where the one job she settles on just so happens to be an outfit based on the moon with daily duties that barely test her abilities. All of that changes drastically when rumors filter into the facility that they may be receiving none other than the head of state at an undetermined date soon. Kate sees a worthy challenge and steps up to it with vigor. She is blissfully unaware that a familiar terrorist group has equally made plans that may coincide with the president's impending visit. Can she stop them before they spill blood and the repercussions spiral out of control? Only time will tell in Wyatt Werne's The Orionids.
Kate Devana stumbles on a conspiracy of gargantuan proportions in Wyatt Werne's science fiction mystery The Orionids. His storyline is relatively easy to follow as it is immediately obvious a complicated mystery is afoot. The cast of characters is quite varied. Werne's use of eye-catching origin stories creates the perfect atmosphere for the reader to become instantly immersed in this novel as they attempt to decipher the clues in the story. What stands out for me in Werne's storytelling technique is the way he deftly balances interstellar politics with an amalgam of end-to-end action and Sherlock Holmes-styled sleuthing. The conversations between the characters are the icing on the cake as Werne displays an innate ability to extract comedic instances from even the most serious-sounding situation. Werne’s novel appears easy on the eye yet it taxes the intelligence of the reader in an exciting manner that makes reading this book a worthwhile experience.
