Noelle Bensen presents two people who never thought they could move on from their pasts. The Night I Found You opens with Gemma struggling through a snowstorm in Vermont. Abandoning her vehicle, she has become disoriented and can’t move. She smells smoke and sees a cabin. Gemma ends up passing out when she falls into the snow. When she wakes up, she finds herself in dry clothing and warm. Then she spies her handsome rescuer. Levi tells her that the snowstorm stranded them both for the weekend. Levi wants to help this lost woman and does his best to gain her trust. Gemma informs Levi she is trying to prove to her family she can stand on her own two feet. Gemma adds that she is carrying her deceased husband’s child. Levi wishes to help her. His next words to her are, “Marry me!”
I got sucked in by the depth of the plot Noelle Benson created. I liked Levi from the start; his intentions are reminiscent of the chivalry men used to show. Gemma appears to be intelligent and a quick learner, which made it easy for me to connect with her. However, the flaws of both people become exposed. Gemma finds a job at a bakery but costs the owner money for her blunders. Levi seems to feel he has to protect Gemma from the harsh reality of the world, which would be detrimental to her intention to stand on her own. The growing tension of both characters’ attraction to each other is palpable. Throw in family drama on both sides and the small-town gossip, and The Night I Found You glued me to my seat. I would recommend The Night I Found You to readers who enjoy slow-burn romances with unpredictable endings.
