Alton Blackwell’s best friend, David Dunlow, is kidnapped in Ecuador by a hired assassin called The Fist. Alton and his wife, Mallory, head there to discover what’s happening. But they’re too late, and they fear David is dead. They continue their investigations and stumble upon an unknown group called ‘the Network.’ Meanwhile, another assassin named Taipan, who had previously crossed the Blackwell’s path, appears to be involved. Just what is the Network? Who is part of it, and what’s their endgame? Does David survive, and can the Blackwells figure it all out before their time runs out? Read The Network by Steven. F. Freeman to find out.
Other books in the Blackwell Files series reveal who the villain is early on; in doing this, the reader has a jump-start on the Blackwell team as they go about their investigations. However, in The Network, the reader is drip-fed snippets of information but can’t put together the identity of the villains or their true motives until Alton’s team does. I like this style the most as it kept me coming up with theories, only to be proven wrong. Steven F. Freeman takes the reader around the world in this book. The story begins in Ecuador before heading to Egypt, Brazil, Indonesia, Kuwait, India, Italy, Germany, and eventually back to the USA. For travel buffs like me, this is a bonus. The Network’s final plan (once revealed) is ingenious and frighteningly plausible. This page-turning thriller will keep the reader up all night, even after the final paragraph.
