The Mysterious Life Inside a Closet by Mrs. D. is the wonderfully colourful story of a collection of characters living in a closet. The main character is a broom, who is bored with being shut in the closet all day. While looking for something to do, she realizes that there are plenty of crumbs on the floor. At first, she believes the vacuum cleaner is to blame, but this makes the vacuum cleaner angry and he denies having anything to do with the mess. Tensions grow as the broom demands to know from the other cleaning supplies who made the mess. Just as things seem to be getting out of control, a new guest arrives and the situation really becomes chaotic.
The Mysterious Life Inside a Closet was a pleasure to read. Mrs. D. has created a cute and clever story filled with great illustrations and fun characters. Each broom, duster, vacuum cleaner, and others living in the closet are well thought out. I particularly loved the dustpan, who had no interest in getting caught up in the broom’s hissy fit. I believe this book is a terrific read for kids and fun for parents too. The text is easy to follow, and the formatting is kid friendly. There are also plenty of personalities to create voices for when reading aloud, and the illustrations are sure to catch any child’s attention. It even made me grin when I went to sweep my kitchen after reading the story. I highly recommend this book to parents and children.
