Author Biography

Novelist, teacher, celebrity masseur, Edward Fahey has spent his life hunting magic, seeking out other sides of reality.
His parents have come back as ghosts. He's communed with mystics and hypnotists, camped in deserts, lived on a ship, traveled out-of-body, even fought his way into the fury of hurricanes; always reaching for anything beyond the easily explainable, for something more profound. He travels the world investigating spiritual centers and sites of almost palpable mystery. He has explored Bronze Age ceremonial mounds, stone circles, the Vatican, letters of the theosophical mahatmas, haunted ancient cemeteries, decrepit castles, and abandoned monasteries, seeking contact with lingering spirits.
Edward has studied with artists, philosophers, clairvoyants, and healers, always digging deeper into the ultimately unknowable. He currently holes up in a secluded mountain cabin in the Carolina woods, but travels wherever the spirit – or spirits – may call him.

Mr. Fahey’s books offer metaphysical insights through engaging tales of passion.

Stories that are based upon reincarnation and life after death, as well as multi-universes, are nothing new. Tales of multiple worlds where the fabric that separates them fades and gives one a glimpse of another time or place, have also been done hundreds of times. I’ve read many of these, but only two or three were more cleverly plotted and written than The Mourning After by Edward Fahey. Kudos to Mr. Fahey for reaching that plateau. But, his writing skill doesn’t stop there. ‘Cleverly plotted’ is nowhere near adequate in describing his mind boggling approach to weaving three characters’ lives, past and present, into a continuous flow that coalesces and provides the reader with a satisfying and profound conclusion.

While entertaining his readership with a story of love, spirituality, world and life views, Mr. Fahey puts icing on the cake with another superior writing talent — phraseology. There are numerous best-selling authors that can ‘turn a phrase,’ leaving the reader agog at a subtle, yet poignant sentence. This term, however, falls far short of describing Mr. Fahey’s almost otherworldly brilliance in this aspect of authorship. Deftly entwining philosophical, spiritual and theological concepts into prose that reads like poetry, he surpasses all standards of mastery in this literary work of fiction. The Mourning After is one of those books that can (and should) be read many times over. I know that I will be reading this book again, confident that I will discover something new with each reading…and that’s what makes for a truly great book.

The Mourning After by Edward Fahey is an intriguing fiction novel revolving around the themes of self-awareness, transcendence, reincarnation, and spirituality. The Mourning After starts with the life of a boy called Denis, who meets a little girl called M. Both of them are instantly drawn to each other, almost as if they already know one another. As the plot unravels, we follow the journey of Denis, M, and a man called Waters who is also an integral part of their lives. The confluence of their lives, both past and present, forms the plot of the novel. The Mourning After, however, is much more than that and its essence lies in the interspersing of mystical insights, spiritual observations, the power of dreams, and the world or worlds beyond the one we live in, that form the crux of this novel. The book allows us to get a glimpse into another world that is perhaps unseen and unknown to mankind.

Edward Fahey has done a superb job in writing a fictional novel with a plot that has such a strong spiritual and outer-worldly undertone to it. The Mourning After is extremely well-written and it kept my attention throughout so that I read it all almost in one go. I loved the questions it raises, how it takes us into the realm of life beyond death, and provokes the age-old questions associated with life that we all ask at some point: Who am I? Where do I go? Where do I come from? This is a thought-provoking, very readable book and one that I would highly recommend.

Yes!!!! I was up until 3 am reading this treasure, your treasure…. gift! Evie finally forced me to bed! Incredible, sacred work of art. I knew you were special and gifted but WOW!!!! I’ve never seen any writing that can continue to weave such beauteous eloquence throughout each paragraph and maintain it….kept going….. enchantingly mesmerized. Was still so deeply intertwined after closing my kindle I had to go into some pretty heavy meditation to break it so I could sleep!!!

I have rarely read any book so slowly, pausing to savor each nuance. Each description is a jewel, each moment with each character opens new worlds. And still the story flows along seamlessly, gathering steam and momentum until it left me sweating to turn the pages. The final lines were an explosion of rich, tear-your-heart-out fulfillment, leaving me stunned.

I have read this book several times now. With each re-reading it gets deeper and richer.

This magical book is a keeper

`Sorry, you will have to buy your own copy’. There are some books that I just won’t lend and this novel is one of those. It is just too precious. `Mourning’ is an intense read which cannot be rushed. I have savoured each word, each description, each scene, each character. Umpteen times I have been stopped in my tracks by phrases or sentences which have then repeatedly pulled me back to reread and truly relish. Amazingly the momentum of the story was unaffected. I was carried along at an accelerating pace until I was in a lather of impatience to discover the ending. I felt I was waltzing with the story, twirling ever faster with the characters as I grew to know and love them. All too soon I had read the last page. So I read it all again. Different layers of this magical story emerged and I know that with each future reading I will be taken ever deeper into the nuances of this beautiful love story.

I just started reading your amazing book “The Mourning After,” and I was captivated from the very first page. Your profound understanding of the human condition; of life, character, and inner-nature; shines through a rich and lovely tale. Only a very sensitive soul could write so well about matters that count. You truly channel deep spirit and passion into your stories. I felt like shouting out loud: “Edward, just keep on writing, keep on writing, keep on writing…

Reading The Mourning After is to encounter prose poetry at its best. Edward Fahey’s story is an enchanting tour of the past, present, and the future through the recurring lives of Denis, M, and Waters. Fantastic! – This is a book for everyone.
This is a remarkable journey through cycles of time. Moody, crystalline prose.

This is the kind of book that gets you so involved that you just HAVE to know how it turns out. It is a love story that spans many lifetimes, but with an eerie twist. Wait, maybe it is a mystery that happens to be a love story. I can’t decide. Either way, I got so involved in the characters’ lives that I couldn’t put it down. I made the mistake of reading it on my lunch hour. I was so curious about what would come next, I forgot to go back to work on time. The author has a knack for making you feel like you are really there. This book makes you laugh, cry, wonder, remember, and dream. It made me more aware of how grateful I am for the people in my life now, and for the ones who love me from Beyond.

Rarely does a novel come along of this depth, intensity, beauty, and perfection. One you want to treasure and hold close, buying copies for friends, but never lending them your own. You will, when the time comes, pass it along to future generations through someone you love dearly, but for right now, you just want to hold it a little longer, to read it maybe just one more time …

“The Mourning After” is a masterpiece!
Edward Fahey’s “The Mourning After” is the rare novel that will stay in my heart forever. It is a page turner that begs to be savored slowly for the sheer beauty of its language as well as for its profound spiritual insights. The world needs more stories like this one that help us to reconnect at the deepest level to the essence of life, love, and humanity.

Incarcerated for life, a prisoner finds hope in the novel, "The Mourning After":
"I have thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It is written exquisitely, poetically; the characters so real and alive. Particularly the three main characters; they speak to our hearts and souls, to the pain and longing in us all. But also to our creative and enduring love."
