The Missing Angle by Karine Leno Ancellin is an unusually written book of poems created between 2019 – 2020 in Greece and New York. Some of the poems have been written during the Covid19 pandemic. The author uses items around us that we take for granted and pays tribute to them as well as what the world has turned into since the pandemic. The poems are sometimes sad, sometimes humorous, and sometimes soul-searching but always bring to mind how the world has changed and what other changes the pandemic has brought to everyday people. Karine Leno Ancellin shows us how isolated we have become and how we became even more isolated during the pandemic to the point that we have forgotten our grass-root origins and are slowly losing our customs. These poems make one realize how much we need to still interact physically with other people. There are poems that you will read and go back and re-read again and again and find different meanings each time.

The author has used the Greek gods to bring home how much we have changed and what we have forgotten. Computers and various activities on computers that we do show how we close ourselves off from those around us and forget that there is a living and breathing world around us. Not having read much poetry for a very long time, I found these poems to be most intriguing and found myself going back to quite a few of them to re-read and think on again. Each time, a different thought comes to the forefront and you realize that there is a most amazing message in each poem of understanding, longing, love, and help for us. Karine Leno Ancellin, thank you for these poems. I really enjoyed reading them. The Missing Angle is a book well worth having in one’s collection for a read whenever the world around us goes into orbit. Thank you for a very inspirational set of poems.
