The Misadventures of Boopsie O'Flannigan by Ludo Frank follows a young woman's journey of self-discovery. Boopsie O'Flannigan always wanted to travel the world. After graduating from state university, Boopsie, seeking to leave her small Alaskan town, applies for a job as a governess to a wealthy couple's two little daughters in Chicago. Soon, she starts working for the eccentric Smiths and their two daughters, Mandy and Emma, aged 9 and 2, respectively. But Boopsie doesn't like to adhere strictly to the rules and continues to mingle with her artist friends in Chicago, exploring her sexuality while searching for her purpose in life. Boopsie joins the Smith family on a trip to Budapest, where she has some interesting encounters with men. But when Mandy gets her hands on Boopsie's diary, all her darkest secrets spill wide open. Now, she is off on new adventures in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
The Misadventures of Boopsie O'Flannigan is twisted, hilarious, and an absolute blast to read. Ludo Frank weaves a fascinating tale of self-discovery about a rebellious young woman in search of fulfillment and enlightenment. Using dark humor, witty monologues, and an unpredictable plot, Frank spins a narrative that is funny, bittersweet, and, above all, entertaining from start to finish. This is character-driven drama at its finest. The characters are quirky, with well-drawn personalities that make an impression on the reader. Boopsie is someone you can't help but love. She has a fiercely independent personality that clashes heavily with her job as a governess. I loved her friendship with Leia. I thoroughly enjoyed the novel and recommend it to readers who enjoy satirical new adult fiction.
