The Maltese Haddock: The Dogsbreath Histories Book 3 by Keven Shevels is the latest installment in a series that chronicles the hilarious exploits of the grandfather of the current Ivor Dogsbreath. The story unravels during the summer of 1948 in northern England at a private detective’s office in Slagbottom. Ivor Dogsbreath, a psychic investigator, has had few clients in recent times until a man enters his office. He turns out to be Lionel Oft whose sister Wanda is missing. Writing down the particulars of his new client, Ivor is taken aback when he finds out that the missing woman is a werewolf. As the story continues, he finds out that Wanda Oft works at a museum that recently acquired a rare, priceless, and controversial antiquity from the Mediterranean, dubbed the Maltese Haddock. Can our hero find the missing sister safe and sound?
The Maltese Haddock by Keven Shevels is an absurd comedy novel that is both suspenseful and highly entertaining. The author has a quirky and prolific sense of humor, and there seems to be no end to the list of bizarre characters and odd situations that they find themselves in. I haven’t read the first two installments in this series, but that did not stop me from following the plot. With a silly storyline and a genre-twisting style, this is a book that will have you laughing out loud with every page. If you need a little something to put a smile on your face and laughter in your belly, this book is for you!
