The Mailboat Dog: Book One in the Lake Dog Adventure Series is a children’s picture book written by Alicia Boemi and with illustrations by Joan Zander Millard. In Geneva Lake, the mail is delivered by mail jumpers from a historic boat that has been in service for over 100 years! Izzy and her canine sibling Hudson were basking in the morning sun when the boat made its voyage, and Izzy was in awe of the mail jumper’s adventurous job. So, Izzy decided that she would become the first dog mail jumper, but on her first day, she realized that it was a difficult task. A seasoned jumper and friend of Izzy called Sammy then takes it upon herself to show Izzy the ropes and make her the best mail jumper around!
The Mailboat Dog is a great picture book. It had detailed illustrations and some important messages for youngsters. The illustrations were very detailed as I could make out Izzy's fur as strands of hair, and the ripples of the water were beautiful, as was the greenery on display. Overall, the images were bursting with vivid color as well. This book contains crucial life lessons for young minds. My favorite lesson would have to be the one pointing out just how important effective and sufficient practice is to conquer a daunting task. That is something every child should know growing up and this book will convey it much better than trying to explain it through words alone. In conclusion, this is not only an excellent picture book for kids but also a mildly educational book for their growing minds.
