The Little Turtle Who Flew by Barbara Lamping is an adorable story that is an adaption from an old myth and can be related to many cultures. The story teaches many moral ideas and values. Baby Bird stopped to talk to Sally Turtle one day when she flew down to the pond to get a drink. Sally wanted to know if Baby Bird had ever soared up high in the sky like the Eagle flying above. Baby Bird thought about what Sally told her the entire day and she was filled with questions when she went to her Grandma's house. Grandma tells Baby Bird that though people believe the Eagle carries their prayers up to the Creator, she felt that if anyone prays from the heart, God can hear it. Grandma then told Baby Bird a story about a turtle. And Baby Bird can't wait to tell Sally the story. It's a beautiful story that teaches readers about love and the power of prayer.
The story conveys an excellent message in a beautiful way and children will fall in love with Grandma Bird's story about the turtle. The illustrations are bright and colorful and they breathe life into the story and scenes. It's a good bedtime storybook and can also be used for interactive sessions in school libraries and classrooms. The messages of love and the power of prayer are effectively expressed with the help of Grandma Bird's story, and will help children understand the value of unselfishness. Beautiful concept and beautiful messages - just what children need to know.
