The Little Light is a fascinating fairy tale style story for children and young adults written by author Dipa Sanatani. Promising ‘A Story of Reincarnation and the Crazy Cosmic Family’, the book seeks to awaken philosophical and spiritual considerations within its young readers by presenting the mythology and ideas of the interplay between the spirits of the celestial bodies in the sky. Beyond this, we find the central narrative of the Little Light, destined for life on planet Earth when it is born into a human child, and we follow the light on its adventure meeting the cosmos and the characters living there as it prepares for the journey ahead.
Though the book is initially laid out for younger people to explore the idea of reincarnation and cosmic energy, I feel that any reader with an interest in the spiritual and the world of fairy tale allegories would very much enjoy following the adventure of The Little Light. Author Dipa Sanatani writes with clarity and beautiful word choices to bring a complex story to life with clean, simple moments of discovery and drama. The meetings the light has with other characters are bold and colorful, and the Planet Party scene is one which is sure to stick in the heads of many younger readers and spark their imaginations. I feel the book also brings about interesting talking points regarding its spiritual philosophy, which would be a great discussion starter in schools or youth groups, making The Little Light an intriguing but also educational read.
