The Light in the Labyrinth: The Last Days of Anne Boleyn by Wendy J. Dunn starts with Kate, who is unhappy with her life and angry because her brother, Henry is at Court. She has to stay with her mother and stepfather and her two younger siblings. She hates her mother for being happy with her stepfather and cannot understand why she married Will Stafford who has a lower status. Kate is desperate to start life at Court but when she finally could go, it is not what she expected. She is confronted with the truth about her birth and her aunt’s unpopularity. The king wants a son as his heir and the queen has not given him a son yet. She finds that Thomas Cromwell, who was once her Aunt Anne’s ally, is now her enemy. He is waiting for the right moment to get her arrested and executed.

The Light in the Labyrinth: The Last Days of Anne Boleyn by Wendy J. Dunn is an excellent novel of historical events, which Wendy turned into historical fiction with her writing ability and imagination. She describes the people, surroundings, and events in such a way that everything comes to life. The novel is beautifully written and makes history accessible in an exciting way. The story is well researched and unfolded effortlessly and smoothly. The characters were skillfully handled, and I could sympathize with the main characters. My favorite character is Anne Boleyn; she is a strong and courageous woman. I enjoyed reading the novel and there was enough suspense to keep me interested and kept me turning the pages. I highly recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys historical fiction.
