The Liberal Ethos by Lawrence Eubank is a book that features essays on the liberal conundrum, with the aim of understanding the core values of liberals, their “ethos” and belief system. In this book, the author attempts to unveil the unifying, coherent principle that guides their philosophy and conduct. In the introduction to this work, the author explains that “This work will attempt to inquire into the essential nature of liberals and the liberal ethos.” He proceeds to do just that and gives readers powerful insights and understanding on the behavior of liberals and what they think about. Readers will enjoy the distinction the author makes between liberals and conservatives, a bunch that hardly embraces any path that challenges them to question their personal conduct and behavior.
This is a book that contemporary Americans ought to read so they can understand how the current political climate has become intoxicated with the perversion it knows today. The author shows great mastery of both the social and the political landscape as well as the cultural values and challenges of the society he writes about. I enjoyed the way he combines psychology with politics to create social commentaries that are thought-provoking, utterly revealing, and realistic. Although this book is designed to offer readers insights into what make liberals tick, it also gives them a compelling analysis of the mindset of both democrats and republicans. Lawrence Eubank’s prose is crisp, his voice strong and emboldened by his fine sense of humor. The Liberal Ethos is a well-researched and brilliantly articulated work; it is as insightful as it is informative.
