There are indeed important people performing amazing actions in The Legend of Higley Flow… A Retrospective, but I am inclined to consider the town of Colton and its surroundings in the Northernmost Terrain of Upstate New York the main character. Richmond Lafayette Holton has brought the land to life through the heartwarming, hair raising and mystical events that take place in and around the waters of Higley Flow in such a way that the characters offer supporting roles. From the late 1600s to the present day, this has been a special place that needs to remain hidden from the scientific community as well as curiosity seekers – there are no real answers that people can accept when it comes to the curious happenings around the Flow. Early on, the history of the Northernmost Terrain is dictated by The Stone, an ancient artifact. In the present day, the mystical nature of the stone and the community of the Covenant of Sunlight are made known to a select few people, including 85-year-old Bernard Tyler Binghamton who ‘knows no malice.’ It has been a long road for Bing, though, to realize the meanings of recurring dreams and how they lead to his ultimate understanding of the secrets of Higley Flow.
Dynamic characters and exciting action keep The Legend of Higley Flow… A Retrospective moving along at a compelling pace, combining elements of the supernatural and history along with good old-fashioned small-town charm and character. Family, friends, and a reverence for the land are strong elements within the story which Richmond Lafayette Holton has crafted with great skill for tremendous effect. If you love action, adventure and a touch of the paranormal, this is definitely a book you should read. Great story! I love how all the pieces fit together.
