The Leaning Tower of Pizza, written by award-winning children’s author Derek Taylor Kent and illustrated by the diversely sourced Bright Jungle Studios, tells of a group of four children who mishear their geography and culture lessons, mistaking the Tower of Pisa for the Tower of Pizza, the Eiffel Tower for the Waffle Tower, the Great Wall of China for the Grape Wall of China, and the Mona Lisa for the Donut Lisa. This glorious mixture of fun, fantasy, and reality is not to be missed. The children start from a great sense of excitement and misunderstanding and progress to finding out the truth about the matter, becoming enlightened little armchair world travelers. Most kids are bound to love this food-drenched fantasy, no matter their gender or culture.
Derek Taylor Kent and Bright Jungle Studios’ The Leaning Tower of Pizza is a fun work that teaches children to want to explore the great achievements of the world and to acknowledge that, although different countries might have different tastes (pun intended!), they all have an appreciation for grand architecture and great artworks. If you want to start your youngster off with a taste for adventure and a desire to savor the finest in life, The Leaning Tower of Pizza is a great place to begin. The use of questioning and rhyming throughout the text makes for an extremely lively read, which is enhanced by the vibrant illustrations that seem to ricochet off the pages. If this isn’t an award winner, then what is?
