A.K. Finch brings us magical fantasy fiction in The Last Ember: A Year of the Dragon Tale. Lian lives in the valley of Ember Cove and works as a blacksmith. Lian also feels in his being a pull toward a destiny yet unknown. When the wind and land talk to him and send him on a quest, Lian listens and obeys. In search of the Last Ember, Lian is joined by several worthy allies who help him on a mission to return the dragons to the land of Dracoria and with it the magic that is part of an agreement. On their travels, they have to defeat the darkness that wants to stop them and prove their worth to those who protect the dragons.
Author A.K. Finch has created a world filled with magical beings and brought it to life with a melodious writing style. Character growth is very strong along with a solid theme of balance and harmony brought on by change and unity. Written in the third-person narrative from the perspective of our protagonist, we are privy to his inner thoughts and feelings. The plot is fast-paced, and you will be unable to put this book down. Sensory stimulation is abundant with colorful descriptions that draw you into the embrace of the pages. I find The Last Ember suitable for not only young adult readers but younger readers as well. In between the pages, there is also beautiful artwork depicting each of the members of this particular fellowship. Look out for the next story in this series!
