The Killer Inside (Detective Jessica Daniel Book 1) by Kerry Wilkinson is a spellbinding and suspenseful murder mystery. A woman's body is found in Manchester, locked inside her home. The woman's friend had reported her missing two days prior to the discovery of the body. The victim's body is found in her bed, evidently murdered in her sleep. There is no indication of a break-in, nor evidence that the victim knew the killer and let him in. It is a mystery how the murderer got in, but the puzzling question is, how did he get out? The doors are locked from the inside and the victim's keys are hanging by the front door. All the windows are locked and sealed from the inside. How did he leave? Detective Jessica Daniel is called in to work on the case. Before she can find a clue leading to the killer, another body is found. The newest victim is also found locked inside his own home and murdered in the same fashion. No clues are left behind and no ties between the victims are apparent. The local media has given the killer the fitting name of the Houdini Strangler. With no leads to the killer's identity, Jessica is stymied in her search for the elusive criminal. How do you locate a perpetrator that vanishes from a crime scene like a magician and leaves no trace?
The Killer Inside (Detective Jessica Daniel Book 1) by Kerry Wilkinson is a gripping murder mystery introducing us to Detective Sergeant Jessica Daniel. Jessica is a strong woman, tough, but likable and relatable. She is a great detective who is not easily intimidated by anyone. I enjoyed the interactions between her and her colleagues at the station. Her confrontations with news reporters and slimy solicitors were admirable and amusing. The story is great! I found it very entertaining and interesting. I enjoyed the characters and the puzzling plot. I am thrilled with this first book in the series and am looking forward to reading more of Detective Sergeant Jessica Daniel and her colleague's investigative work. This is an enthralling and suspenseful book that I recommend to those who love a good, puzzling detective mystery.
