The global COVID-19 pandemic disrupted many activities, including the travel and cruise industries. Thankfully, this was only temporary, and cruising enthusiasts around the world have been able to return to traveling by sea. The Joy of Cruising Again by Paul C. Thornton is a collection of interviews that feature various interesting individuals who have built a career around cruising. The book is divided into eight sections, and it covers various well-organized topics such as the impact of COVID-19 on cruising, cruise ship life, ship design, cruise influencers, bucket lists, cruise ships as theme parks, theme cruising, and other intriguing cruise-related topics. This is the final book in a trilogy that includes The Joy of Cruising (2019) and Cruising Interrupted (2021).
The book is brimming with amazing characters. Getting to know them better and their daring, unconventional life choices was one of the major reasons I couldn't put the book down. As I enjoy shooting music videos, I especially loved Neil's story about being a cruise videographer who got to travel to various parts of the world while working. Cruise lovers and ship enthusiasts will not only be entertained by the exciting stories involving celebrities and festivities but also learn about such things as how ships are designed and the difference between a ship's crew and staff in this detailed book. The Joy of Cruising Again is an engaging and brilliant read with several cinematic-style pictures, profound quotes, and smartly organized chapters. Paul C. Thornton's book is a reminder that variety is the spice of life. Every interview opens your mind to different possibilities and careers you can explore to experience a truly rich life.
