Jacqui Kelley-Kinnie is a retired psychologist living on the Florida Gulf Coast with her husband, Bailey the Bichon and Miss Tiger, the Norwegian Forest Cat.
Jacqui worked with children of all ages in agencies and schools as well as young adults and even in a State Prison for a year. Her greatest love was working with children who had experienced severe abuse, whether physical, mental or emotional. She loved teaching children that the world was not so bad, that they could learn to trust and love again and in the case of children adrift in foster care, that they could finally find a real family that loved and cared for them forever.

The Journeys of Bumbly Bear is a wonderful children’s book written by Jacqui Kelley-Kinnie. Julie is all grown up now and doesn’t need her stuffed animals any longer, so while she is away, her mother puts all the stuffed animal toys into a big black plastic garbage bag. Bumbly Bear and his friends, Dody Deer, Sammy Seal and two bear children, all feel like they are suffocating. It is a very frightening experience for all the animals for they know they are not wanted any longer and aren’t sure where they are going. All they know is it is dark and lonely in the big black plastic bag. They end up at a second-hand store and must all somehow stay together as a family. The animals all have feelings, too, and have a special way of communicating with their loving children. Will they find someone to adopt them, and will it be possible for them all to stay together?
This is a delightful book. I read it aloud to my young daughter, and she liked the story and comprehended it well. The plot flows nicely, and it is easy for children to understand. I have always loved a good animal story, and this one does not disappoint. We all remember what it was like to have those few special stuffed animal friends in our lives that we could tell everything to. We loved those stuffed animals, bonded with them, and then had to depart with them when we grew up. Every child can relate to this unique story on some level, and it will remind them of their favorite little stuffed animals sitting at home on their shelves.
