On Fred’s twenty-first birthday, his father runs off and his great-aunt Bridget passes away. He soon realizes that he is in charge of caring for his two younger sisters. When their home burns to the ground, they are forced by the townsfolk to leave because of the bad reputation their drunkard of a father had. Fred, Marjorie, and Sandy are three siblings left out of ten, and soon are off to find the refuge home of Edgar Wiguel. When the trio is told by Wiguel that they are too old and that the refuge home was for children, they are sent back onto the road with little means and only a vague idea that Orden might be the best place to go and the least likely to be suffering from hardship like other towns they traveled through. Together the siblings hope to find a new place to call home.

The Journey by Verity A. Buchanan started out a bit slowly, making it hard to grab my attention, but I was happy I continued onward. After the first couple of chapters, the story plot picks up and is very interesting. I enjoyed the plot and found the characters to be very likable and relatable. I also loved the sibling reunions which gave it a dramatic touch. The story was very creative once the pace picked up. Also, I always love for authors to create whole worlds for their stories. I thought the map and the places in which the Thorne children traveled throughout to be very intriguing. It takes a lot of creativity to build a universe as Verity A. Buchanan has done. Overall, I found it a good read that I would recommend to friends.
