The Irresistible Blueberry Bakeshop and Cafe is one of those really nice, heartwarming stories that sticks with you long after you put the book down. In her tale of rescue, adventure, and finding yourself, Mary Simses really succeeds in making her readers see through the eyes of her characters.

Ellen Branford is a career woman. She is perfectly content to live high in her tower of power in Manhattan, living out her day job as an intense and effective attorney and enjoying the lavish affections of her gorgeous fiance. Yet, she can't resist the call of her grandmother's dying wish - to find the boy she fell in love with as a young girl, and give him her final letter. So Ellen returns to the small town on the coast of Maine, but what should have been a one-day trip ends up meaning way more for Ellen than she realized. She quickly becomes a celebrity in the small town, and it's not because of her kick-butt lawyer skills. Nope, she just happens to fall into the bay within her first hours in town and has to be saved by a local named Roy. Heartwarming and life-changing adventures ensue, all in the name of finding love and happiness.

I loved the wonderful imagery that Mary uses when depicting Beacon. I'm already on the verge of deciding to move to the East Coast myself, and this book with its lush scenery and wonderful descriptions may have just swayed me into it. Mary does a wonderful job painting not only the setting, but the very air that the characters breathe and I was just captivated by her words. This could have been because the version I received was an audio book, but I doubt it. I think both Mary and the narrator were very skilled and helped lay the foundation of a lyrical and beautiful work.
