The Hunt by Krysten Harlow is the second book in the Chronicles of Lethia series. Bea, Nate, and Sab have to find the Exiled and kill them. Only then will they be able to destroy Zero and keep him from performing the ritual. No one knows exactly what the ritual involves, only that it will destroy the world as they know it. With Nate and Bea leaving the Academy and splitting up to hunt the Exiled, Sab stays behind researching dragons. It seems one of the Exiled has a dragon that could make everything much more complicated. Can Bea and Nate trust their companions and can Sab rely on the information she is getting? With the interesting addition of extra characters and the revelations of new kinds of magic, will Bea, Nate, and Sab succeed in their mission?

In The Hunt, character growth is evident in the thoughts and dialogue of the trio. I loved the various distinct kinds of magic introduced in this fantasy novel. Even though some of the protagonists from the first novel are not as prominent in the second, I welcomed the inclusion of the new characters. It created the needed color and tension to make this book exceptional. With the author’s unique style of writing and focus primarily on the dialogue, enough information is given to make the reader start second-guessing some of the minor characters. I wouldn’t suggest reading this book as a stand-alone. Even though most of the information presented in the first book is repeated in the second, the little details fall away without the full background. I loved the twists and turns created in this one, and I look forward to the next installment by Krysten Harlow.
