The Humor and Wisdom of the Aged by Dr Euclid A Isbell Jr is a charming book that has something for everyone. Split into three sections - Wisdom, Humor and Inspiration - it is filled with pithy one-liners alongside pearls of wisdom that really make you sit up and think. Euclid Isbell has definitely left political correctness at the door when compiling this collection of gems; nobody is safe from his biting humor. There are some great put-downs in this book and some interesting twists on traditional sayings. Politics, marriage, religion, and rednecks feature heavily, and countless other subjects are touched upon. The first two sections will have you laughing out loud and the inspiration section will give you food for thought as it is such a spiritual read. Even if you are not religious, there are some truly inspirational points of view.
This book was a revelation for me. I had expected an anthology of famous quotes from elderly statesmen and women, but what I got was an absolute gem of a book. I love humor that has an edge and witty one-liners that can stop a conversation in a heartbeat. In The Humor and Wisdom of the Aged, Euclid Isbell has provided plenty of both alongside insightful words of wisdom. My garden is filled with homemade signs that display witty sayings to amuse my guests. Now I am going to have to get a bigger garden! Normally I wipe a book off my kindle once I have read it. This book, however, will be kept on there for times when I really need a pick me up.
