The Highland Curse is a young adult paranormal novel written by Shelby White. Alycia and her three best friends, Sarah, Sacha and Lauren, were looking forward to a long, and mostly lazy summer, but those expectations were soon shattered. They were still recovering from their recent foray into the paranormal after inadvertently raising the spirit of a malevolent entity, named Jeremy, who had been bent on seeking vengeance for his family's misfortunes. Together with Lady Sky, a local medium, they were able to help Jeremy cross over, thus ending the chaos and havoc he had wreaked upon their hometown of Arlington Heights. Experimenting with that old Ouija board had had consequences none of them ever dreamed possible. Now, however, the murder of yet another victim, with Jeremy's trademark Ouija board dial left behind, had them seriously concerned. Their leisurely summer would have to wait just a bit longer.
Shelby White's young adult paranormal novel, The Highland Curse, is a fast-paced and enjoyable story about four young women who've become accidental paranormal investigators. This is the second book in White's Paranormal Adventure Series, but the author includes a prologue that enables this book to be read on its own. As an enthusiastic reader of paranormal fiction, I enjoyed the plot of this novel, especially the historical aspects of it, and appreciated seeing how the four teenagers work with Lady Sky, their mentor in things paranormal. This is a well-written story that features an intriguing contrast between the teens' everyday lives and the supernatural world they've suddenly become a part of. The Highland Curse is highly recommended for fans of paranormal thrillers.
