Mark Savannah is back in The High Yield Vector, the second book in the Mark Savannah Espionage series by Baibin Nighthawk and Dominick Fencer. British Intelligence found out that Mark Savannah is alive and so he’s on another mission, albeit remaining dead and buried to the rest of the world. He is to find out which organizations are behind all the chaos in several African countries by observing and acting as a mercenary. In return, he will get back his status in British Intelligence and gain a new identity in New Zealand. But Mark has learned about a biotech company doing experiments on the local community with GMO seeds and he can’t help but interfere. His urge to investigate the company becomes stronger when he finds out who is behind it.

The High Yield Vector is Book 2 in the Mark Savannah Espionage Series, but I think it can be read as a standalone. Not having read the first book, I found the story easy to understand and follow. The story flowed smoothly and was written well. The action scenes were lacking a little heat, but it was gripping enough that I still liked it very much. What is great about this book is that surprises are plentiful and every chapter is an anticipation of what might come next. I think many more obstacles will come Mark’s way. I am excited for the third book, and will read the first one in the meantime. I think the story line and many of the characters in this book have appeared in the first one and, though it was easy to get into, I still recommend reading the books in order so as not to spoil anything.

This isn’t the first time Mark has found himself fighting for his life against people he should have been able to trust, but it is the first time he’s getting some people on his side of the situation. Whether he can finally succeed in his goal of stopping the enemy and his plans or whether he’s going to end up dead for real is going to depend on his own smarts as well as those of his new (and old) friends. Pavel and Anais might be the most important people in his life right now, but only if he can get back to the world he left behind and look to fix the problems threatening more than just his life in The High Yield Vector by Dominick Fencer and Baiban Nighthawk.

This book is full of adventure and plenty of mystery at the same time. You feel yourself really drawn into the story and each of the characters, whether it’s Mark and Pavel or Maribel and Amghar, there’s definitely someone that readers can relate to and plenty of characters that you’ll hope make it to the end (with this much action you never know). I would recommend this book to readers who really like action and adventure stories because that’s definitely what it is from the very first pages all the way to the end (though with a little bit of romance thrown in there too). The High Yield Vector is a continuation of Mark Savannah’s story, but it’s definitely not finished by any means. So I’ll be watching for the next book.
