The Heart of Attention by Darla Luz is a self-help inspirational guide that shows readers how to cut out the clutter in order to “Free Yourself from Stress, Anxiety, and All Inner Conflict for Good, Creating a Heart-Felt Life of Perfection.” Darla Luz begins with her own personal story, one which included all the things most people consider to be the keys to success. When faced with financial ruin, mounting losses made an already difficult situation feel hopeless, until she had a thought... one which came as an epiphany, a message that changed everything. Over the course of ten chapters, Luz takes the reader on a journey of discovery and reflection, focusing on areas such as consciousness, discovery and empowerment, negative thinking and positive energy, where it comes from, and how to harness it, surrendering, and many other areas for growth.
There is something to be said about an author who so thoroughly believes in their message and has been so touched by their transformation that they want nothing more than to help others get there too. Darla Luz is that author and The Heart of Attention is that book. What struck me first is the authenticity of Luz's narrative. Her troubles are laid out for all to see and she accepts them as a man-made affliction that no person on their own can just get out of. This is not a religious guide but a profoundly spiritual one, tapping into ourselves and allowing something greater to do the rest. My favorite part was in chapter seven where she writes, “You came into this world simply alive and thriving. How did you lose that?” For me, it created one of those moments where you just have to sit back and take it in. My transition to simple living has taken over ten years but I'm almost there. I am so, so grateful to have found this book so I can get down to the heart of the matter, and have a heart of attention.
