The Harpoon Solution, by G.A. Jamin, is the story of Michael Dinero, a privileged kid who is gifted, but socially inept. His attempt to foil the kidnapping of his friend and classmate, Carla, ends up with him being grabbed as well and becoming an unwilling witness to her rape and mutilation. While he's successful in escaping from the kidnappers, Michael is scarred by the event and has now become the surviving kidnapper's target. His parents surround him with an elite security team, but Sifontes is not that easily deterred. After a team member is killed while protecting him, Michael makes a run for his life and, by doing so, sets out on the adventure of a lifetime.
I read a lot of books, always have, and every so often I come upon a truly special one. You know, the kind of book that grabs you and puts you into the story, getting you so involved that you forget about appointments and stay up way too late at night. A book whose characters are larger than life and yet are real and compelling; characters you feel you know and care about deeply. The Harpoon Solution is one of those books. There's plenty of action and adventure in this awesome coming-of-age story and not a little tall-telling and humor as well. There is lots of different scenery included, as Michael and his shipmate and mentor, Darwin, travel the globe on assignments for the Empress Helen and BlackBox, a global service enterprise. G.A. Jamin's new classic adventure tale is fabulous reading; a tale that satisfies and enriches the reader. When I reluctantly read the last few lines of the book, I started searching Google for more works by this author. I hope to find some soon.
