Wendi Sotis' newest book, The Gypsy Blessing, is the author's perspective of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Elizabeth Bennett comes upon an injured woman who turns out to be a gypsy. Elizabeth comes to her aid and then assists her back to her traveling home. As thanks, Elizabeth is given a special gift that will allow her to view life differently than she ever has before. You, see, this gift was one of magic, that of the gypsies. Elizabeth starts receiving artwork but doesn't know who it is from. She thinks it is weird but doesn't dwell on it until she starts realizing, as time goes by, that she is living through scenes in the pictures. Once she has grasped what she has, it is for her to decide if she can, should, will alter the outcomes of events to come.
I have never read any of Wendi Sotis' previous books, but in researching found that she has written three other great stories prior and one has the option to purchase them in a boxed set. Her book, The Gypsy Blessing, was familiar but since it has been A LOT of years since reading Pride and Prejudice, it wasn't overshadowed by Jane Austen's writing. It struck me that those who do remember Pride and Prejudice would surely appreciate the different perspective Wendi Sotis provides in The Gypsy Blessing. It was interesting to me that somebody could take a novel so well known and turn it into their own. This is definitely one of those books that you should cuddle up with and take advantage of the ending of winter while you can!
