The Gumball Dragon, written and illustrated by D.R. Case, is a light-hearted book for children with a message behind it. The story is based on a dragon called Sidney who doesn't believe in himself. The other dragons make fun of him at dragon school and fill him with even more doubt, but one day he meets two other dragons who are nice to him, and even compliment his glasses. Professor Skair announces there will be a test at the end of the dragon training, which makes Sidney feel uneasy. He has never flown before and worries he will be made fun of again, but with the help and support from his friends, Scout and Violet, he feels more confident. Whilst training, Sidney discovers something unique that helps him with his flying, and he finally finds his special skill. What is Sidney's trick to flying? Pick up a copy of The Gumball Dragon to find out.
The Gumball Dragon is an enjoyable book to read. Author D.R. Case has done a great job of creating a fun story with a relevant message . It shows how powerful having the support of others can be for you. It can change your outlook about yourself entirely and even block out the negative people who constantly try to bring you down. This story also shows that you can be whoever you want to be, no matter how different or incapable you think you are. The illustrations are beautifully detailed and you can tell a lot of effort has been put into them to make them as perfect as they are. I loved this book so much and have already read it more than once. It's a story you never get tired of reading. D.R. Case, please continue to write page-turning stories like these because I want to read more!
