Rosa Marchisella's The Greatest of Books tells of a disgraced knight's quest to retrieve a book, The Greatest of Books, from a frightening troll. Baxton Al'Mur's trials are made even harder by the fact that he has to do his best to survive, not for himself, but for his kind, sweet best friend, Lenigh, who is bound to his own life and thus can experience every emotion, injury, or illness he has. However, surviving isn't the only problem for him. The longer he stays alive with the book in his grasp, the more people are in danger and, at the end of the road, he may be forced to make a decision between the completion of his mission at a great sacrifice or betraying the last person he loves.
The Greatest of Books bursts into action from the very first chapter. It has a fast paced, propulsive, kinetic, and dark story line. There is never a boring chapter. Marchisella has created a ferocious book whose pages are a whirlwind of action and sacrifice. Sir Baxton, the disgraced knight, tries to remain true to his oath, to serve and protect the weak, even going so far as trying to rescue the criminals that were sent to retrieve the book. He tries to hang on to his innate goodness, even to the very end of the story. His struggles, trials, and tribulations throughout the book, and Lenigh's belief in him, have shaped this story into something truly astounding. It is a heart-stopping, heartrending, thrilling tale, well worth the read.
