Bernie Krause, author of "The Great Animal Orchestra" brings his great expertise as a naturalist, musician and natural sound expert to his book. This is a review of the audio book. To get the true essence of this book I highly recommend listening to the audio book. Each moment of life we are assaulted with the sounds we have become accustomed to: street traffic, radios, televisions, jumbled voices of people surrounding you, the clang of forks, things dropping, and other numerous sounds that we humans create. It is often difficult to filter out those annoying noises. In "The Great Animal Orchestra" we hear the pure sounds of nature: a frog croaking, the wind blowing, crickets rubbing their legs together and numerous other sounds. Krause has recorded many sounds of nature and shares a large number in this book. The hypothesis of this book is whether the delightful sounds of nature were adapted by humans to create music.
I love the spring because I can sleep with the windows open and listen to the large frog sitting on the edge of the pond singing his solo, the sound of the cricket playing his leg as though it is a violin, and birds singing in harmony the words to their song. Those are the most beautiful sounds in nature. When you put all the sounds of nature together you have an orchestra created and directed by the hand of God. I enjoyed this book. I was mesmerized by the sounds Krause included along with his text. Well done Mr. Krause.
