The Gift of the Ladybug, by Carole M. Amber is a touching tale about love and parenthood. In a small village there lived two horses that were in love and longed to have a child. One day they were blessed with a baby boy. They were so overwhelmed by love for their child that at first they did not notice how different he was from them. Soon, however, they discover that their child is not a horse, but is actually a ladybug. With this discovery comes the realization that their life with their son will never be what they expected. But, with love and understanding, their lives are soon filled with surprising joy even in the face of adversity.
There are some children’s stories that are fun and entertaining. Then there are some that linger with a reader long after the tale is complete, teaching a lesson needed to be learned and not soon forgotten. Then there are those rare stories that do all of the above. The Gift of the Ladybug, by Carole M. Amber, is one of these stories. I had tears in my eyes as I completed this wonderful story and pondered on its beautiful message of love. This tale is a splendid tool to teach children about unconditional love, the celebration of differences, and living life to the fullest. And, at the same time, it will teach parents to cherish the child they have been given and the time they have with them. This is a book that should be on every library’s shelves, and I hope to read more from Carole M. Amber.
