Marco Gauthier is a Canadian author, living in a small town in the Eastern Township. Father of 2, a daughter and a son. He has worked as a retail business owner most of his life while being a musician and a songwriter in his spare time. He has been writing music and lyrics for the last 30 years, always keeping his mind into a creative mode. This experience makes his writing dynamic, fresh, rhythmic and moving. His narrative style is ‘at this very moment’, as he writes into present tense, so you live the action as it unfolds before your eyes. His style makes for a lively, straightforward approach, making you feel like you are watching a movie. A very engaged writer, he lives and feels the story of his characters. He sometimes even has to stop writing, as it sometimes gets too intense (especially in darker scenes). In his opinion, if he can’t feel it, the reader won’t feel it!
The Ghost of me is the first part of his creative world where 2 more volume will be produced. Volume 2 is already in writing.

When the plane he boarded crashed in a remote area near Lake Ouachita, Jimmy finds himself among several survivors who are unhurt and as confused as he is. Then, strange bare-footed men in black suits appear and take them to an unknown destination. The men are calm and helpful at first. When one of the survivors tries to run, it causes a panic reaction among the group. Soon enough, Jimmy and the others try to escape as well. When the others fail, Jimmy is left alone to fend for himself, and he's determined to find his way home. The Ghost of Me (Volume 1) by Marco Gauthier gives us its perspective on the world between the living and the dead.
The story concept reminds me of the '90s film Ghost, but with a different premise and a lot more action. It’s clear right from the beginning what had happened to the ‘survivors’ of the plane crash. It took quite some time for the protagonist to realize－with a bit of help from his blade-wielding friend－the type of situation that he's in. I was ambivalent about the present tense prose, but after a few chapters it was not an issue anymore. Some parts of the narrative can be more concise. On the other hand, the writing is straightforward and the plot is considerably fast-paced. The illustration or image in each chapter complements the story well. On the whole, Gauthier’s The Ghost of Me is predictable in several ways, but has some solid, imaginative elements in its spin on a familiar concept and theme.
