Game Wizard by Larry Tipton is a brilliant technothriller crime mystery finely laced with clean romance and designed to thrill fans of suspense and action. It starts with the murder of a resident in a quiet neighborhood. Soon after, Tony Ingram, a private sleuth, travels to the funeral of Kevin Arn, his acquaintance and a friend of Fred Sim, Tony’s army friend. An Afghanistan survivor, Kevin was murdered with his fiancée Jill McNerney while parked in a secluded lover’s lane in the Oakland hills. The police thought it was a mugging that ended badly, but Fred doubts it and asks Tony to put his detective skills and sixth sense to work and look into Kevin’s death. Tony agrees and finds himself investigating a mind-boggling series of murders.
I loved reading Game Wizard; every page brought a jaw-dropping surprise. Larry Tipton masterfully crafts the plot, interweaving several plot threads, putting me ahead of Tony Ingram, and making me wish I could prompt him on what to do next. I enjoyed navigating with Tony Ingram the labyrinth of confusing clues he was unraveling in the serial killer's unexpected and randomly designed actions. Tony’s wild goose chase kept me glued in its ever-increasing crescendo of anticipation until I chuckled at its most ironic climax. I highly recommend it to a broad adult audience of crime fiction fans and technothrillers.
