The Fourth Rising is a work of fiction in the thriller, conspiracy and suspense sub-genres, and was penned by author Martin Roy Hill. The third volume in the Peter Brandt Thrillers series, this highly engaging novel has its roots in real historical events dating back to the Second World War. We begin with the concept that the Nazi party did not fully surrender itself at the end of the war, and from there the author takes us on a fascinating journey to investigate both murder in the present day and the secrets of the past. Our hero Peter Brandt must uncover hidden treasures and terrifying new resurgences of a culture that he thought had died out long ago.
Author Martin Roy Hill has crafted a highly engaging and suspenseful novel that encompasses all of the best elements of crime, mystery, historical, conspiracy and thriller genres, with plenty of action and adventure thrown in for good measure. The novel works on a number of levels and will appeal to many audiences as a result, but what impressed me most was the author’s commitment to historical realism, and using evidence that we know has been truthfully uncovered in the real world. This made the context and developments from the author’s imagination all the more credible and therefore truly terrifying in places. Added to this was Hill's ability to pace both action and exposition sequences very well, which allows for a flow of peaks and troughs in the action that gives audiences time to think, but never gets boring. Overall, I would highly recommend The Fourth Rising to all readers looking for their next great thriller read.
