Jason, Kelly, and the trolls are back in The Forgotten Age Book 2, Druid Ascendant. Author Wayne M Sefton begins with a helpful recap of Book 1 to catch the reader up, then opens with action when Kelly can no longer sense Jason and fears he is dead. Kelly searches for Jason through his sword, and the rescue mission begins. The story progresses as the Druids call on the magic of the earth, the trolls continue to help with the battle against the elves, and a new Druid is revealed. All along, the relationship between Jason and Kelly intensifies and becomes the heart of the story as they attempt to keep each other safe through battles with elves, giants, and animal creatures they meet along their journeys.

Author Wayne M Sefton does not disappoint with this continuation. Jason’s trademark humor keeps the darker scenes from becoming too weighed down, and because of the rich characterization, it is very easy to become immersed in The Forgotten Age Book 2, Druid Ascendant. I truly feel as though I “know” these characters! The dialogue is authentic, there is always action and movement, and the characters are coming into their own with the Druid magic, using it to help others even when it weakens them. I particularly enjoyed the scene with the tree and laughed at the “Druidmania” in the city. There was a clear picture in my mind of the elves outside the city as well as the council, and while we did not see much of Jason’s “red rage” or a full-blown Druid/elf war in this sequel, I was still engaged with the story and the characters. I loved Kelly’s role as a healer, and just as in Book 1, I appreciated her feminine strength and compassion. I would recommend the book to fans of epic fantasy and those who enjoy stories about magic, Druids, magical creatures, and other worlds with great characters.

I enjoyed this book so much that after reading it I reread the first book and then read this one again. This author is one of the best that I have ever stumbled across. I only found his first book by chance on Amazon and my curiosity was peaked so I got the book and gave it a try and I am so glad I did, and the second book was even better as the story was carried a long at a great pace. The interaction between the characters is brilliantly well written and really gives off the feeling that these companions are a real family. The action and the tension as the war with the elves intensifies was perfectly done and has left me eagerly awaiting the 3rd installment as it all comes to the final close. As I read both these books I could see everything so clearly thanks to the authors beautiful way of describing every detail you need to form a clear picture, and because of that it felt like I was truly there. One of the best stories I have read in a long time and the style of writing makes me think of authors like Tolkien and prattchet combined and I absolutely loved it.
