The Follower III: Terrorist Groups in Silicon Valley and Boston Are Smashed by the Follower by John Durbin Husher sees Axel Tressler employ his augmented powers to foil a series of conspiracies. First, he investigates deaths caused by experimental nanoparticle technology. After making suggestions to improve Aortica’s manufacturing process, Axel must also infiltrate Antigenic, where he stops an evil master plan. Tori insinuates herself into Nanico and the gossip leads to a group of Russian activists. Axel discovers they mean to spread botulism. His next mission involves gun trafficking. Then Axel receives an upgrade before meeting the President of the United States. Next, he flies to London and disrupts a series of bombings. He also risks his life in Iran to free a group of students. Will he succeed in taking action against a nuclear threat?
The Follower III by John Durbin Husher is an espionage thriller that presents a patriotic ideology supportive of the United States. I liked Axel’s unique abilities, including his internal phone and his hood of invulnerability. I enjoyed following the exploits of a hero with super strength and high intelligence. The bullets that bounced off him were cool, especially when one ricocheted into a bad guy! The action scenes were fierce and Axel almost always killed all the conspirators to maintain his incognito status. Axel reminded me of a cyborg, humanized by his relationship with Tori. The incidents were fast-moving and exciting. The narrative also incorporated technological explanations, making the terror plots easy to understand. The book should appeal to readers of action-conspiracy adventures.
