Pawah does not love either of his parents. He merely sees them as obstacles in his life but he is willing to use them for his benefit. He plays the grateful son when he is given the chance to go to school and become a scribe, but he has no intentions of repaying his parents for their efforts to give him a better life. He embarks on a journey to Waset, determined to do all he can to achieve the rich life he feels he is owed. How far will Pawah go for power and gold?

Lauren Lee Merewether has created a unique and mesmerizing story that features a villain's perspective. With Merewether's astounding ability to capture the reader's interest from the very first page, I was taken on an unforgettable roller coaster ride. Pawah has all the characteristics of a great villain: manipulative, deceitful, and only interested in his own well-being. He sees everyone as a pawn or a stepping stone, judges their value on whether they could be manipulated easily or if they could be of use to him. On behalf of Pawah's victims, I felt so frustrated and helpless. I had my fingers crossed the whole time, hoping that they would eventually see through his facade before it was too late for them. Truly The Fifth Prophet twists the heart and gives a unique insight into a villain's mind and motives. The entire story has evoked such strong, complicated emotions and reactions in me. I have never hoped so much for the downfall of a book's main character! (Curse your heart to Ammit, Pawah!) Overall, I found the entire book to be extraordinary! It is absolutely memorable because of its careful details, beautiful settings, and super characters. Thank you so much for this amazing reading experience!

The story follows young Pawah who leaves his home behind to start a better chapter in his life. Coming from a poor family, Pawah wants to become a scribe at the temple of Amun. So, he travels to Waset to do just that. However, Waset is the place for the wealthy and not very appreciative of a boy who has nothing to his name. But he soon figures out that he has a way with words, and if Pawah plays it right, he will no longer be poor with no money to his name. As he grows older, his greed for power and riches grows as well. And that marks the beginning of a man who will go to whatever lengths to get what he wants and get it however possible.

I am a huge fan of author Lauren Lee Merewether and The Lost Pharaoh Chronicles. She creates the most diverse universe and characters that take readers to a new level. As expected, the story is intricate, richly detailed with some of the most picturesque descriptions and character development that only a writer of her caliber can deliver so effortlessly. Pawah’s story is jarring yet moving at the same time. A young boy with nothing to his name comes to a strange city, and his head turns after witnessing the riches the city has to offer. The author takes us into his mind, makes us live Pawah’s thoughts and how he operates. There is power in the narrative, the plot has an energy that seeps through each word, and of course, the background is so realistic that you will feel like you are in the moment with Pawah. It is a whole sensory experience that you should experience at least once in your life. I absolutely loved it.
