The Fearless Fantabulous Five is a Christian storybook for children written by Emily V. Bastien and illustrated by Raman Bhardwaj. Bastien includes five inspirational short stories in this collection. In London Rescue, the narrator shares her family’s trip to London, detailing the exciting things they saw and recounting a frightening thing that happened to her later that day. In Grape Seed, Lisa, a new Christian, learns that it’s okay not to know everything about God and Christianity at first. Like the grape seed, a new Christian grows with the help of Jesus. In Two Trails, Chris sets out on an enjoyable hike but learns that not listening to the still small voice of God when making a decision can lead to danger. The author also includes puzzles within the illustrations and a list of inspirational verses from the Bible.
Emily V. Bastien’s Christian storybook for children, The Fearless Fantabulous Five, is a well-written and highly accessible collection of stories for young Christians which show how Christian living can make kids fearless and fantabulous indeed. Each story contains a compelling plot and contains an edifying conclusion. I especially enjoyed Esa and the First, which deals with the problem of bullying and gives a Christian perspective on how to deal with bullies. Esa's belief in God and conviction that no bully, however large, can be a god gives her strength. Raman Bhardwaj’s illustrations are marvelous! They are boldly and brightly colored, and they add dimension and detail to the author’s tales. The Fearless Fantabulous Five is most highly recommended.
