John Barnes is an avid writer for all types of mediums. He’s written advertisements, TV and radio spots, web sites, news stories, songs, poems and more. THE END is his first novel and was a concept he thought of during high school. John and his wife have 3 children and 3 grandchildren. He enjoys the outdoors, sports, art and travel.

The End by John Barnes is a tale about young love and how our actions can impact the rest of our lives. Jake Peterson is your typical nice Christian guy. He maintains good grades, treats everyone equally, and never bends the rules. When Katie Martin starts showing interest in Jake, he feels like he is the luckiest guy in the world. Katie is beautiful, smart, and kind. She is everything that Jake wants in a girl, except that she sometimes drinks too much. When Katie starts drinking, her personality changes. She changes from a sweet girl to a serious flirt, even when Jake is there. This is hard for Jake, as he doesn’t drink himself. He made a pact with himself never to drink after his grandparents died in a car accident caused by a drunk driver. Jake will have to decide if this one element will be the end of their relationship. If this isn’t hard enough for Jake, he also has to endure the fact that the world is ending.
When I started reading The End, I thought I could already see where this story is going, but John Barnes definitely caught me off guard with his plot twist. I would have never guessed the way this story would unfold, which made it all the more enjoyable. The End had me questioning my life decisions and the impact they have on the people close to me. It also brought to my attention that life is short. I don’t know when it will end and for that reason, I should always be ready. This book definitely got me thinking about certain habits in society, which we perceive as acceptable, but may not be in the eyes of God. The End is a must-read for any young Christian adult who is looking at the social habits of the world.
