The Eeriness of Being Alone by Rosie Moore is the story of a little boy who has a scary experience one Halloween night. It was a cold fall night and a windstorm was developing near the old mansion at Scar Lake. It was a full moon and the wolves were howling. The little boy heard the shrill cries of a woman filling the room and the lights had gone off. He then saw a headless woman, who told him to give her head back. The boy tried to run, but she got closer and closer to him. He was trapped and could not escape. Suddenly he heard someone laughing out loud and he looked around. What does the little boy see? Who was laughing at him?
The story captures the eeriness and mood of Halloween and the illustrations do full justice to the author’s words, breathing life into the scenes to enhance the creepy feel for readers. The headless woman looks scary in the pictures and she will surely frighten readers with her looks and the way she moves closer to catch the boy. The story is good for interactive sessions in classrooms and school libraries, especially during Halloween. The boy realizes that he is actually not alone when he hears the rattle and shrieks, and footsteps moving closer to him. Children will love reading this book as most of them enjoy scary stories. Everyone loves surprises and in this story the ending is unexpected and will surprise kids.
