Bunny and her family are enjoying their vacation in Fort Morgan near the beach. Sudden stormy weather puts a temporary halt to their activities, and an unexpected guest from her past shows up with a disturbing message-her childhood friend Hannah is in trouble. A call to an old friend reveals that Hannah is missing. Despite her son's reluctance, Bunny and her granddaughters, Ariel and Shannon, depart for Greensboro. Along the way, Ariel’s spiritual gift is blossoming. Their search for Hannah brings them to the Cherokee Nation, where they receive some help from the beyond to find the missing woman.

The pacing of The Disappearance of Hannah by Bunny Hofer is moderate in some parts, which I find apt for this story as I can have a relaxing read but still enjoy the chilling paranormal factor. Bunny is easy to root for, but I’m very fond of Ariel, and glad that a child with a gift has support from the family instead of denial or rejection. Her character development is deftly handled. The narrative is straightforward and clear cut, and sufficiently evokes every mood of the moment quite well. Despite the theme, there’s no extreme blood and gore but more of a steady climb of apprehension. Even though it’s a short read, the ending wraps up the plot nicely. I do wonder how much of the story is inspired by real events. Overall, The Disappearance of Hannah is not the scariest story that I’ve read, but it’s enjoyable nonetheless. It’s a good mix of poignancy, the paranormal, the supernatural, as well as suspense.
