Walking through the cemetery on her way to work Jennifer stumbled and her foot pulled out a tree root from the mud. She did not see the rusted necklace chain at the bottom of the root. She left a bag with two plain hot dogs on a gravestone. After she left, her friend Ulysses, who lived in the cemetery, grabbed the bag with his dirty and shaking hands. Jennifer is the only person who is on duty at night. Her job is to receive and process the bodies and prepares them for autopsies the following day. Trevor Pryce, a famous actor, has been arrested and sentenced to do community service at the morgue. He likes making jokes about the bodies, but Jennifer warns him that this is disrespectful to the deceased. Ulysses continuously checks to see if he can find treasures after it has rained and the roots of trees have been exposed. He finds a gold amulet that possesses powers in The Desecrated by John Gray and hides it in a drain in the morgue to protect Jennifer.
The plot in The Desecrated by John Gray is complex and exciting. It is a perfect mix of horror and the supernatural. The story is fast-paced and full of action, but never felt rushed. The suspense had me on the edge of my seat. It was unpredictable and full of surprises. I never knew what to expect, and I could not turn the pages fast enough to find out. There were so many different events without losing the thread of the story. The characters were excellently described, and I could relate to them. Each character had its own background and personality. The story is well-written and skillfully handled. The Desecrated had my attention from the beginning. It exceeded my expectations and was nothing at all like I expected. The ending was a surprise and unexpected; it blew my mind.
