In The Daemon’s Wish by Chris Wright, Noah Peterson is a criminal profiler whose expertise is highly sought after by local police and the Europan Army. When an elusive serial killer starts to wreak havoc in New Varanasi, Noah’s epilepsy leaves gaps in his memory, and he finds himself in the same places as the killer. When a chance presents itself for Noah to apprehend the sadistic slayer, it seems to everyone that he is chasing a ghost. It is confusing for Noah and the authorities to determine what is real and what is not. Worst of all, the evidence keeps pointing to Noah as the suspect. Can he prove his innocence? And what is the mysterious voice that guides him in this case?
Set in 2410, humankind can utilize advanced tech and make Jupiter’s Moon, Europa, their home for generations to come. Tech such as Hover cars, Holo-Phones, and Europa’s rainbow-colored rain make the Galilean moon a fascinating place to live. However, humans will always have their flaws. The well-paced plot is unpredictable, and some scenes involve suspenseful action in space. The chasing scenes between the characters are well-depicted and impressive. Trust is imperative as the police struggle to stop a sadistic killer. Noah Peterson can be in control in some moments and somewhat helpless in others, but the ‘Daemon’ always finds a way to get what it wants. The opposing opinions between Detective Alicia Johnson and Detective Don Thomas as the bodies pile up are riveting, adding complexity to the case. A great mix of sci-fi and the supernatural, Chris Wright’s The Daemon’s Wish has surprising layers to its storyline that readers will appreciate as the truth and a tragic past are revealed.
