The Curvy Girls Club by Michele Gorman is a weighty story, the tale of 4 girls and a guy or two. Katie and her friends Pixie, Ellie and Jane all attend a slimming group but none of them is happy with their results. The final straw comes when they book tickets to go see a film and the chairs are too small for them. In a bid to start accepting themselves for who they are, they start a club called The Curvy Girls Club. Rob, another member of the slimming club, joins them and they start setting up events for the larger person. The club grows and so does a romance between Katie and Rob. But Katie has always lusted after Alex, one of her bosses, and when he starts paying attention to her, can she resist? The Curvy Girls' lives are about to change, but is it for the better or worse? Can they cope with what life is about to throw at them?
The Curvy Girls Club by Michele Gorman was an amazing read. It was laugh-out loud in places and a little bittersweet in others, but I believe that Michele has tackled the issues that those with a bit of spare flesh have to face every day in a fantastic way. It’s a real story with real people living life with real issues, even though it is a novel and it made a change from all the stories that feature stick thin models living lives most of us could only ever dream of. Well done to Michele Gorman; I hope there are more books in the pipeline!
