In The Crown of Rosemund by Michele Ashman Bell, in Anduron, 1498, the King and Queen have been murdered. All is not lost for the royal family as young Princess Rosemund has been taken deep into the forest for safety. With soldiers on the lookout, the Princess must adapt to a new role so that she survives with her life. The young Princess makes a trusted friend in a young man named Maxwell, who helps her as she grows up and trains for what will come, even as she lives a peasant’s life. When she turns 16, the young Princess will need all of her wits about her to overcome the evil ruler who has usurped her birthright.

I love a good story where a strong young woman has to overcome and adapt. The Crown of Rosemund delivers in this adventure. Rose may be a Princess but she learns early on that nothing is going to just be handed to her and her life is in danger simply by being who she was born to be. She does not give up the fight and must enter into a dangerous game at such a tender age. This is certainly the type of book with events that will keep you glued to the edge of your seat. Every page holds a different moment of bated breath and adventure. Royal intrigues are some of the best. This is a well-written young adult book and fits firmly within that realm. However, I find this to be a fantastic read for an adult as well. If you are a reader who likes a strong female lead, danger, intrigue, and royal courts, you will get all of it in this excellent tale of adventure.

A Sweet Tale of Noble Princess to Rightful Queen

Author Michele Ashman Bell has written a beautiful historical fiction that takes the reader on a complete and satisfying journey, all the while giving never a doubt that the story is headed to a very happy ending. There is always a clear sense of right and wrong, of good and bad, of what is just and unjust. With each new character introduction comes an immediate knowledge of who is heroic and who is untrustworthy. Like in a Disney princess movie, this virtuous princess progresses with her difficult growing up years, defeating each challenge head on with dignity and big-heartedness. No doubt, Rose is meant to be a beloved, rightful Queen and even though she has to surmount many exciting and terrifying challenges along the way, she absolutely will get there because it is just not in her to fail. I recommend this book to anyone, young or old, who's in the mood for a Happy Ending. Very sweet and nicely written.
