The Couple’s Adventure – Over 200 Ideas to See, Hear, Taste, and Try in California is a work of non-fiction in the adventure, travel, and advice sub-genres, and was penned by Kvaala. The work is intended for couples to read and enjoy as they plan their next vacation together, as explained in the catchy tagline ‘Make Memories That Will Last a Lifetime in the Great and Ever-changing State of California’. Taking in the diverse nature of this marvelous state with its classic roots and modern attitudes, natural vistas, and big-city domains, the work splits itself into many different categories of things to 'see, hear, taste and try’.
Kvaala has crafted a fantastic guidebook packed with plenty of insider knowledge, tips, and tricks to offer readers. One of the features which I found particularly impressive about this piece was its desire to go off the beaten track and not just list the typical things about California that we all know and expect to find. I particularly enjoyed the commentary on the music scene, from country venues to jazz clubs, which is so much more diverse than at first glance, and the unique narrative style makes everything sound so exciting and enticing. The interior formatting and organization also lend themselves to making this a very handy little book for inspiration and quick reference to websites and details. Overall, I would highly recommend The Couple’s Adventure – Over 200 Ideas to See, Hear, Taste, and Try in California to locals and distant travelers alike who are looking for magical experiences to share on their next visit.
